Midnight Rendezvous by ~Juan-Ice

This mini comic was initially supposed to be a Filipino-themed holiday card, complete with St. Nicolas on a bangka being pulled along by flying carabaos through the starry sky. It later evolved into a silent comic about an OFW homecoming. In a sense, OFWs are like real life Santas.

There are millions of Filipino who work overseas. In 2010, they remitted up to 18 Billion pesos. As domestic helpers, nurses, caregivers, seamen, construction workers, and more, they are the Philippine’s number one export. Many do not see their families for many months, and work in deplorable conditions. They leave to support the family they left behind, to earn enough so they can return to a better life.
